Title: Flicker
Rating: G
Universe: Home
Timeline: January 1st, 2008
Written: January 4th, 2008
Summary: Mike thinks about his fiancée on New Years. Very short.
The field is barren, aside one flicker of life. Above, all of the stars shine clear in Westchester County; he's looking up and thinks they're beautiful, but in his mind, he sees fireflies.
The fur-lined hood of his parka does well to chase away the chill, and he's in fine form; he trains fairly often with his team, and hangs out with them whenever he can. He's come to love Rick and Nance as fiercely and devotedly as he has the others, over the past few years, and sometimes he tries to gently remind them, "Look, guys... you have each other. You're here. Together."
He sees fireflies, and three diamonds on a ring, and there are still sometimes days when his faith wavers, and he wonders if he'll ever see the rest of his family again.
Mike takes a breath, head back, eyes on the stars, and smiles a little sadly.
"Happy New Year, Kitty."
